The independent organization Chapter 272 is affiliated with the organization Experimental Aircraft Association, EAA, which is based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Association’s mission and purpose are the promoting of general aviation and sport through experimenting, sharing experiences, and discussing.
EAA Chapter 272 was chartered in 1966 and ever since the organization has at the forefront of promoting general aviation around the Western Lake Superior area. Chapter 272 is serving the cities of Superior, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota. EAA 272 provides educational opportunities through the college scholarship program to the youth of these communities. The organization additionally is developing youth leadership skills through its sponsoring activities in the SMT program and EAA’s Air Academy. Chapter 272 is actively involved in promoting aviation safety through the organization’s EAA Flight Advisor program and participation in EAA’s Technical Advisor programs.
It is the organization’s mission to:
- Foster aviation education;
- Promote sport aviation;
- Encourage youth involvement
The organization annually enjoys a chapter picnic in the summer and have an annual Holiday party. Chapter 272 members sponsor an annual poker run, Young Eagle Rallies, Flying Start Seminars, and sponsor several fundraising breakfasts and cookouts during the year.
Since 2005, the chapter has its own hangar located at the Richard I. Bong Superior Municipal Airport. The chapter hangar is available to chapter members for maintenance, project building, and for meetings and educational functions.
The chapter encourages anyone interested in sport aviation to join the organization and the monthly meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of every month unless there is a conflict with other chapter functions.
